Cinecucina: Feeling the Air7:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Cinecucina is proud to present a screening of Feeling the Air (Sentire l’aria) at MoPA. The movie documents the life of 15 year old Andrea from northern Piedmont, who chooses to be a shepherd, leaving his comfortable home, surgeon father and teacher mother, and the urban rituals of adolescence, to learn an unusual and dying trade in the mountains around Biella, an ancient town in wool commerce. This is no teen rebellion but a thoughtful choice whose realization we follow in rhythms of daily and seasonal time, in the beauty and pageantry of changing conditions but in the timeless business of “il pastore,”the shepherd. The film makes no judgments but one: Time is a key part of this life where what marks the passage of time is not so much the clock as the gaze, the hearing, the joining with natural rhythms of life. And what Andrea brings to this ancient craft is not only his passion but his intelligence that will help re-found for Biella its wool trade. Feeling the Air is a voyage of images and sounds of the secrets that tie a boy to the solitude of the pastures while seeking a new identity.
