Please join us in beautiful San Diego as grassfed producers, nationally recognized experts, chefs, consumers, academics, processors, distributors, food artisans, and others dedicated to the sustainable and healthy production of grassfed and pastured meats gather to network, educate, and celebrate the American family farm at AGA’s 2013 conference, October 31 through November 2.
Events will include a tour of the Mendenhall Ranch in the Palomar Mountains and a delicious ranch dinner; two days of issues-oriented and thought-provoking workshops, keynotes, and panel discussions; and a celebration of local food, wine, and grassfed products at our Grand Tasting. The goal is to continue Growing the Culture of Simple, Honest Food.

Dia De Los Muertos
Gather with family and friends at Suzie’s Farm for a Dia De Los Muertos celebration to pray for and remember those who have passed. To make this a celebration in true Suzie’s Farm style, we have invited chef friends from San Diego and Baja to prepare traditional Mexican dishes. Bring remembrances to place at our Main Altar to commemorate your loved ones. While this is a holiday to remember those who have passed, it is also a fiesta – frivolous and formal and funny and full as life!
Our Dia De Los Muertos celebration will be a family fiesta with tickets available for adults and children.
This celebration is a benefit for the Front Burner Fund and Kitchen Commandos, two great, local non-profit organizations helping our food community.

Once again the Fisheries & Seafood Technology Sector Working Group has stepped to the fore and pledged to provide the freshest local sustainable seafood for this annual extravaganza celebration of all things maritime.

The Annual Sustainable Seafood Sensation Reception & Dinner that immediately follows Day One of the annual Blue Tech & Blue Economy Summit have elevated the “Maritime Gala Dinner” above and beyond “a celebration of all things maritime” to one of the culinary highlights on any seafood lover’s calendar. In 2012, under the capable direction of Chef/Event Architect Andrew Spurgin a dozen chefs prepared an array of seafood appetizers and a three-course dinner that rivaled any meal served in San Diego in recent history.

Join Tommy Gomes, Catalina Offshore Products Fishmonger and Chef Jenn, Culinary Instructor and Certified Culinary Nutritionist to not only learn how to make wonderful fresh fish dishes, but how to filet and portion fish as well. Chef Jenn is a talented cook and teacher who has a deep passion for food. Tommy comes from a fishing family and has been around it all of his life, the two make a wonderful duo. San Diego Magazine had nominated him as one of the top 50 people to watch in 2011, so don’t miss out. Tommy will discuss how to buy fresh seafood and what to look for in freshness and how to trust a true fishmonger. He will also instruct students on how to use the entire fish.

−La Plancha Pop-Up Dinner: Celebration of Baja & Tequila Tasting6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
A unique collaboration of Baja and San Diego chefs to include Chad White of Plancha Baja Med, Javier Plascencia of Mision 19 and Jason Knibb of Nine-Ten. Feast upon 6 uniquely styled courses with handpicked tequila pairings selected by Marcela Valladolid of Hacienda de la Flor and Food Network’s Mexican Made Easy. The Plancha Baja Med tagline is “It’s like a high 5 in the mouth” and with this line up of chefs, it promises to do just that.
The term plancha is Spanish for “iron” and is the type of griddle used in Mexican cooking, similar to a flat top grill. “Baja Med” refers to the culinary movement where Mexican, Mediterranean and Asian cuisine are fused together to create one mouthwatering flavor explosion. Chef Chad White began a journey of pop-up dinners in this style, where he is able to take creative liberty to cook what he wants, however he wants, wherever he wants. The sky is the limit. Balboa Park December Nights, the nation’s premier holiday festival, will take place for the 35th consecutive year on Friday, Dec. 6, 3-11pm, and Saturday, Dec. 7, noon-11pm. As always, the event brings families and friends together to spread holiday joy, learn more about the cultural value of Balboa Park and kick-off the “most wonderful time of the year.”
Participating Balboa Park museums open their doors free of charge from 5-9 pm both evenings and more than 350,000 visitors are expected to experience the joy of San Diego’s largest free community festival.
