    1. Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre (all-day)
      Oct 25 – Oct 29

      From Event Website:

Slow Food’s Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre is an international food fair with a difference. Held from October 25-29 this year and fully open to the public, it’s an opportunity to discover the foods that change the world.

For the first time, visitors have full access to all parts of the event, which was previously closed partly to official delegates. Here is a run-down on what is happening, with Slow Food members able to take advantage of the 50% discount on entrance fees (30 euros for a five-day pass instead of 60), 20% discounts on the bookable events and 30% discount on books.

There is also a series of free Conferences, which bring together experts and practitioners to discuss pressing issues for a healthy food system: from climate change and urban agriculture to animal welfare, biodiversity and Indigenous peoples and local food sovereignty.

Slow Food members receive various discounts at the event: half price entrance tickets, 20% discount on bookable events and 30% discount on Slow Food books and merchandise.

See event website for more details.

Learn how to cultivate your own mushrooms!

      From the event website:

Help us grow the farm and learn all you need to know to cultivate your own oyster mushrooms at home! You’ll even be able take home a 1lb bag of mushroom culture upon completion of the workshop!

Cost: Cost is $30 per person ($25 for Friends of the Farm) to attend the workshop. You will make and take home your own starter kit of oyster mushrooms to grow at home!
Instructor: Chris Young, Owner & Founder, SoCal Shrooms

Special thanks and much gratitude go to the San Diego Fishermen’s Working Group, Driscoll’s Wharf, Carlsbad Aquafarms and Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute Marine Fish Hatchery for their generous contributions to this maritime feast.

    1. Grain-Free Cooking Class
      2:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Join Slow Food Urban San Diego at Cups La Jolla for a culinary showcase of grain-free cooking. Grain free diets have increased in popularity in recent years with those who follow a “Paleo” style diet, and also those who are gluten-sensitive. Eliminating or cutting back on grains may also be beneficial to diabetics, pre-diabetics, and those with other digestive issues. Even if you don’t have these issues, it may still benefit you to learn about a few grain-free dishes that focus on tasty vegetables and fruits, meat, and nuts. Rachel Helmer and Michelle Guidroz will take you on a grain-free journey in the culinary kitchen at Cups, preparing an autumn brunch which will include Grain Free Pumpkin Muffins, Grain Free Apple Crumble, a delicious salad, and an autumn themed pizza. Yes, that’s right, a grain free pizza. Everyone will be able to sample the goodness we create, and we will provide recipes for everyone to take home. Keep an eye out for more details on our website when tickets become available.
