      This month we have a extra special treat for you! We’ll be celebrating Sustainable Seafood Month as part of our monthly Slow Sips event!

      As always, you’ll be able to learn more about getting involved in our grass-roots organization, sign up to be a volunteer, and meet and mingle with like-minded friends. There will be a cash bar and full menu available for ordering. In addition, Collaborative Fisheries Research West grant awarded to researchers at California Sea Grant based at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and at University of San Diego, we are also able to feature  complimentary samples of local seafood prepared by the Fish Public kitchen!

      About Fish Public: Restaurant visionary Tracy Borkum manifests a quaint 3,500-square-foot seafood eatery in San Diego’s charming Kensington neighborhood with Fish Public, which opened doors in June 2013. Fish offers quality sea fare at accessible price points and draws culinary inspiration from the Atlantic’s Gulf Coast, New England and English Coast as well as West Coast of America, Baja and Pacific Rim regions. Unique offerings include an artisan retail area and a custom chef’s oyster counter with peek-a-boo views into the kitchen. The interior design, spearheaded by Borkum herself, is reminiscent of a Nantucket-inspired beach cottage with a light and airy appeal. Focal details include whitewashed wood accents and unexpected lighting fixtures fashioned from old fishing nets. Fish Public’s beverage program is comprised of draft craft beers, an international wine selection and an eclectic cocktail menu with all mixers, syrups and infusions made in-house.

Join us at the FASD Distribution Center on March 20 for an insider’s look at how we distribute more than 19 million meals annually, 75 percent of which is nutritious. Gather Around the Table to enjoy a delicious, family-style meal, celebrate health and nutrition efforts that are impacting our community, and raise much-needed funds as our key nutrition supporters.

    1. San Diego Master Gardeners Spring Seminar
      7:30 am – 3:30 pm

      Our goal is to improve the gardening practices of San Diego County residents who grow ornamental and edible plants by providing practical information on non-commercial home horticultural and pest management related topics. Proceeds from the seminar are used to pay related expenses and to support Master Gardener public education activities.

      1. Each person must submit a separate registration request.
      2. Classes fill quickly and early registration is recommended. Seminar registration and assignment of classes is on a first come, first served basis. Confirmation of class assignments will be confirmed on the printed receipt upon payment.
      3. No refunds will be made after registration.
      4. For safety purposes, we request no children under age 12. Minors must be registered and supervised by an adult at all times.
      5. This is a non-smoking campus.
      6. Please no pets, service animals only.
      7. The food and beverage will be provided by: CulinArt Catering Company
      8. Plentiful and accessible parking is provided and is complimentary. Parking attendants will help direct Seminar attendees to the parking garage.
      9. Handicap parking is available in the lot near registration check in.
      10. We reserve the right to substitute speakers if necessary.
      11. This event takes place rain or shine.

      GENErating Healthy Eaters: An Introduction to GENE – Garden Enhanced Nutrition Education

      Use your existing school garden to enhance nutrition education for children and youth and promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables. Participants will learn tools and strategies for involving children and youth in safe food handling and preparation in a garden, kitchen, or a classroom. Participants will also explore how to plan for an edible harvest and touch on Garden to Cafeteria programs.
