If you could have a hands-on, high interest field trip within walking distance to your classroom, where you could teach language arts, math, science, health, and more, wouldn’t you want to make it happen? All this is possible in the school garden! The CSYSG Workshop is for teams working to create or enhance a school garden program. This workshop covers planning and designing a school garden, basic gardening skills, curricular connections, and outdoor classroom management – everything you need to get growing in the right direction.

GENErating Healthy Eaters: An Introduction to Garden Enhanced Nutrition Education @ Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center
Nov 6 @ 8:30 am – 4:00 pm

Date:  Friday November 6, 2015 –  8:30AM to 4PM

How do you get kids to eat the fruit and veggies they’ve grown in the garden?  Need ideas for recipes, age appropriate cooking activities, or food related books? You can use your existing school garden to enhance nutrition education for children and youth and promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables. Come to our GENE class to learn how. Activities are drawn from curricula for grades K-7, and are all available for free online. Participants will learn tools and strategies for involving children and youth in safe food handling and preparation in a garden, kitchen, or classroom. We will also explore how to plan for an edible harvest and touch on Garden to Cafeteria programs.
